Green Pasture Giveaway

This week is a blog (and giveaway - yay!) about the benefits of fermented cod liver oil and high-vitamin butter oils.

While researching supplements and health sites to help heal my digestive issues, I came across the Weston A. Price group on I found many people who were taking cod liver oil and became intrigued. Once I learned more about it, I decided to give it a try, and I'm glad I did. My energy levels are up, immune system is more responsive, and I can't say that I mind clearer skin and stronger hair and nails.

Fermented cod liver oil is a traditional high-vitamin food full of Omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin A and vitamin D. The oil contains high amounts of EPA and DHA, or fatty acids needed for proper functioning of the brain and nervous system. And I'm sure there are numerous health benefits, such as lower blood pressure, healthy skin, bones and joints, and better digestion (which is what I take it for). I found this blog here where a woman claims that the oil cleared up her skin.  She even shows before and after pictures and I must say it's a significant change.  She looks healthier, even "glowing."

Dr. Weston A. Price found these oils were up to ten times more present in remarkably healthy "primitive" cultures.  Author Sally Fallon also mentions the benefits of these and other nutrient-dense oils in her book Nourishing Traditions.  In my opinion, this books is a must-have for anyone passionate about health and nutrition.

Many other brands tend to refine their oils, killing the vitamins and then adding in synthetics.  And if you read up on the difference, you will see the synthetics do not provide the same health benefits. The  oil is also cold expeller pressed, so you know none of the nutrients are destroyed in the process. And best of all, the fish are sourced wild in the Arctic, not farmed.

There are more servings in the liquid (118) versus the capsules (60). And for those who are squeamish about the taste, they have cinnamon and orange flavored oils which I hear are really popular.

So why fermentation, you ask? Fermentation makes it more easily digestible and nutrients easier to assimilate.

It is recommended to take your cod liver oil along with high-vitamin butter oils to support creation of what Dr. Price called the "x-factor" or "activator x"vitamin, now believed to be vitamin k2.  This factor was present in the healthy cultures that Dr. Price studied. Unfortunately, it is almost nonexistent from the western diet. Other sources include meats from grass-fed cows, fish eggs and shellfish.

Best of all, for those who cannot tolerate dairy, butter oil contains no lactose or casein!
